Guitar

One of the most popular instruments in the world is the guitar. It has a wide range of applications and may be found in a variety of musical genres. The story of the acoustic guitar reflects that of Western music, from Spanish flamenco and accompanying folk melodies to gaining centre stage as a solo instrument in classical pieces.

A hollow wooden body with six strings strung over it and down a slender neck makes up the guitar. A single, spherical sound hole is commonly found in the body of a guitar. The strings may be plucked or strummed using the fingertips. To sound the strings, some guitarists use a plectrum (a triangular piece of plastic).

Guitar plucked stringed musical instrument that descended from the Guitarra Latina, a late-medieval instrument with a waisted body and four strings, and presumably originated in Spain early in the 16th century. With a less noticeable waist, the early guitar was narrower and deeper than the modern guitar.
